What the app stores on the iPad, what syncs when you sign in, and what schools need to know.
The short version
ClassMetrics HR shows live heart-rate data for a whole PE class on one iPad, tracks time in activity zones, and turns a session into a report you can keep.
The class data you enter is stored on the iPad. If you sign in, it is also synced to your own account so the same classes appear on another iPad. Signing in is optional and the app works without it.
What the app handles
- Roster information you enter: student names or identifiers, class periods and groupings. What goes in is your choice, and initials or numbers work as well as full names.
- Heart-rate readings streamed from Bluetooth straps during a session, and the zone and MVPA figures calculated from them.
- Attendance and behaviour notes you record during class.
- Your account details when you sign in: your email address and, if your sign-in provides it, your name. Nothing else about you.
Sign-in offers Sign in with Apple and Google. Sign in with Apple can hide your real address behind a relay, and that works fine here.
Where synced data is stored
When you are signed in, a snapshot of your classes, students and sessions is stored in Google Firebase (Firestore), under your account and readable only by it. That is what lets a second iPad show the same classes, and what restores your data if an iPad is lost.
Sync is off when you are signed out. Everything stays on the iPad in that case, and nothing leaves it.
No advertising, no tracking, no sale of data. Class data is never used for advertising, never sold, and never shared with anyone outside the services that store it for you.
Student records, FERPA and consent
The school or district owns the student records. Movemetric processes them on behalf of the teacher and the institution, and does not use them for any purpose of its own.
Heart rate is health information. Before using straps with a class, follow your institution's policy on collecting it, and on how long records may be kept. If your district needs a data agreement in place first, email support@movemetric.org.
You can reduce what is held by entering initials or student numbers instead of full names. The app does not require real names to work.
Apple Music
Segment playlists play through Apple Music using your own subscription on that iPad. Movemetric does not receive your listening history, and what you play is between you and Apple.
Getting data out, and deleting it
Export any class or session to CSV from the Reports screen, at any time.
To delete a student, a class or a session, delete it in the app; the change is carried to your synced copy. To remove everything, sign out on every iPad, delete the app, and email support@movemetric.org so the synced copy is deleted as well. Deletion requests are actioned within 30 days.
